Diverse Picture Book Units

Lessons that Integrate

Why Diverse Books?

It’s that if you want to make a human being into a monster, deny them, at the cultural level, any reflection of themselves.

Our classroom library should provide mirrors and windows for our students—where they can see characters and themes that reflect who they are and the world around them.

Resources

Our picture book units are created using a diverse children’s book integrating reading, writing, grammar, and character educations.  It can be difficult to teach certain topics, but using a picture book can make it a little easier.  Picture books can help build background knowledge that leads to better comprehension.  Do a deep dive with a picture book and enjoy the discussions that follow.

OutSchool

Outschool is the largest marketplace of live online classes for kids. We connect learners, parents and teachers to create interest-based, small-group learning experiences that take place over video chat.

Check out a multi-day class, where we will dive into a Dyamonde Daniel chapter book and use our creative writing skills to produce poetry while researching a famous poet.
